The SCBDA 2A/4A Upperstate Championships offers a positive experience for about 3,000 high school students and is one of the LARGEST competitive events for high school students in the state. The event is well chaperoned and supervised within a strict competitive format where positive crowd responses are highly encouraged and every band is recognized at the awards ceremony.

Sanctioned by the South Carolina Band Directors Association, it is considered to be an official state competition and judging requirements are identical to the state championship. The top placing bands from the Upperstate Championships will proceed to the State Championship Competition.

AWARDS

Judging is based on the SCBDA format with categories including music execution, visual execution and visual/music effect.

AMENITIES

A wide variety of Concessions will be on-site. Water will be available to all band members at no charge before and after your performance. If your band would like "curbside" delivery of pre-performance meals or snacks, please call 864-583-8848 to make arrangements.

Band Directors are invited to visit our hospitality suite located inside of the stadium fence for light snacks and ordourves.

Various vendors will be on-site and you are invited to browse their booths. Event shirts will be available for just $8.00 each, and programs will be available for just $4.00 each.

Each competing band will recieve a copy of the judges tapes, a dvd of their performance, and a full band photograph.

EXHIBITION BANDS:

South Carolina State University Marching 101 - The SCSU Marching 101 are regular performers at football games throughout the southeast, and nationally televised professional football games. There are approximately 310 members including musicians, drum majors, dancers, and color guard. The band was organized in 1918 as a "regimental band" performing military drills as well as assisting with music in the college Sunday school and other occasions.




The Boiling Springs Bulldog Band - In 2008 the BSHS Bulldog Band was the largest high school band in the state with over 200 members, and band is the largest student activity at BSHS. Approximately 85% of marching band members are honor roll students, and the extra-curricular band program is 87% privately funded. In 2008 the Marching band ranked in the top 50 bands in America at the Bands of America National Championship, received the SCBDA Outstanding Performance Awards, a Superior Rating at the SCBDA Concert Band Festival, a superior rating at the BOA National Championship, the Bronze medal and Superior rating at the SCBDA 5A Marching Band Championship, at the Olde English Marching Band Festival held in Rock Hill, SC, they were a finalist where they were awarded a Superior rating, first place in their class, and overall Grand Champion.
